Reading and Watching: My Friends Are Killing It

Welcome to the latest edition of Reading and Watching -- a recurring feature for paid subscribers about what I have been reading and watching. Because my family is expecting a new child any day now, this feature will account for a good deal of my Substack action through the end of the year. I'm basically off Twitter and not too deeply involved in the daily struggles for full employment or political sanity, neither of which are going particularly well at the moment (see Italy, Elizabeth Truss, the ECB, Jerome Powell). I am instead reading books by my friends and trying to find good stuff to watch for that stage of life in which you do not get enough sleep but nevertheless often do not feel like sleeping.
